OR Lights

Illuminate the future of Operating Room

RIMSA medical and surgical lamps:

Cutting-edge LED solutions for operating room lighting

rimsa or lights

Light is a fundamental element of our lives. When it comes to work, especially in the medical field, it is crucial for successful diagnoses, examinations, and surgical operations.

The evolution of surgical lamps has been slow, but today a significant milestone has been reached thanks to cutting-edge technologies that ensure high safety and elevated comfort for both doctors and patients.

RIMSA has developed the best OR lighting technology with the aim of ensuring doctors and surgeons around the world can operate on their patients in optimal conditions.

RIMSA: The Evolution of Surgical Lamps

In the history of medical lamps, RIMSA plays a crucial role.

It was in 2002 when RIMSA launched its first LED operating room light, at a time when LED technology was still emerging and anti-glare solutions, now standard, were just being considered.

The advent of RIMSA surgical lights in operating rooms worldwide has transformed the appearance of these rooms and the way doctors operate on patients. Thanks to RIMSA’s patented anti-glare technology, there has been a significant decrease in operating room accidents and an increase in the success of both invasive and minimally invasive surgeries.

The reason is simple: glare represents one of the greatest dangers in an operating room. The special RIMSA technology present in each of our medical lights has eliminated this danger, ensuring greater safety at every operational stage.

RIMSA’s medical lamps were the first to feature an indirect lighting system. This innovation extends the typically narrow LED light beam, minimizes glare, and eliminates shadows when objects or limbs obstruct the light. This indirect lighting technology, integrated into all major RIMSA surgical lights, allows healthcare professionals to move freely without the risk of shadows causing errors.

“Shadowless” is the term that identifies this type of professional lamp used in the medical-surgical environment, technically called a surgical lamp, the scientific term for what is commonly known outside the scientific community as a surgical light. Turn ON!

Lighting is not the only aspect that contributes to the success of an operation, but it is clear that the OR light developed by RIMSA has eliminated all problems related to the condition of the visual field.

The Advantages of Using RIMSA Medical Lamps

In the operating room, the health of the doctor, the patient and the medical team are equally important: ensuring everyone’s well-being is essential for the success of the operation. RIMSA OR lights are designed to provide bright, strong light that does not cause fatigue, distraction, stress or dehydration. How?

LEDs for the best performance

RIMSA uses solely white LEDs for all of its lamps, therefore immediately resolving the issue of coloured shadows. The LEDs used by RIMSA emit a light that can reach a temperature of colour equal to 5,000K – a light so purely white that it is close to that emitted by the sun at its Zenith – and an excellent Colour Rendering Index (CRI) value.

The must have of OR lights

The Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures the ability of a light source to reproduce colors faithfully. According to regulation CEI 60601-2-41, scialytic lamps are able to guarantee a minimum value on the CRI. Due to their specific use and importance, scialytic lamps by RIMSA guarantee the perfect CRI value to faithfully reproduce colour.

The right Intensity of OR lights

The International Electrotechnical Commission has set the maximum lux level at 150,000 lux. RIMSA not only guarantees compliance with the indicated values, but has made the intensity of the light present on the surgical lamps adjustable via keyboard or touch dimmer button.

OR lights innovation

Alongside that also comes the added benefit of lower temperature generated on the printed circuit board, guaranteeing a longer service life, a lower luminous degradation and a greater scialytic effect than that of a direct reflection solution.

Why RIMSA is different?

Rather than using direct light principles, RIMSA focuses on reflected or indirect light. The advantages are functional and strategic: the use of indirect LED technology increases the light-emitting surface; indirect reflection allows for a greater illuminated surface using fewer LEDs; using fewer LEDs results in greater energy savings and lower material consumption.

OR Comfortable Lights

When talking about surgical lighting we must always consider the impact of the quality of the lighting on the surgeon’s eyes. Their visual comfort is of primary importance.

RIMSA operating lights are designed to put the surgeon, doctors and the team in the perfect state of comfort: their characteristics ensure the right brightness and guarantee perfect visibility, without tiring the eyes, generating glare or constraining the surgeon and the team to assume incorrect positions to ensure better vision.

Lamps Made for all.

In the operating room, every gesture is important. RIMSA has equipped its surgical lamps with ergonomic devices to direct the light simply and functionally. RIMSA designs and produces their lamp arms according to the principles of ergonomics: they are made of aluminium to reduce weight whilst guaranteeing excellent stability.

RIMSA, designing its own support structures internally, can better respond to any requirement, offering solutions that are customized to the dimensions of each installation. In addition to personalized support structures, RIMSA also offers two configurations of yoke: single yoke or double yoke. Whilst the double yoke is the only configuration offered by all other producers, RIMSA also offers a single yoke solution in order to be able to fit the needs of installations where there is a low ceiling.

How to use laminar air flow in OR lights

In operating theatres, maintaining a sterile environment is crucial to prevent infections. One effective method to control the bacterial count in the operating field is the use of laminar air flow. Interestingly, the shape of the object, such as a lamp, impacted by the laminar air flow does not affect the air turbulence created. However, the temperature of the object under the airflow significantly influences turbulence: higher temperatures increase turbulence.

To address this, RIMSA designs its lamps using materials that aid heat dissipation. The body and cupola of RIMSA lamps are made of die-cast aluminium, effectively reducing heat radiated from the lamp head. Additionally, the internal components, including the LED PCB, are constructed from aluminium, copper, and ceramic, minimizing heat generation at the source. This design choice not only lowers the operating temperature of the LEDs but also enhances the lamp’s interaction with laminar air flow, extending the product’s service life.

Choose RIMSA lamps for a sterile, efficient, and durable lighting solution in your operating theatre.

OR lights: ‘Always on Focus’ technology

RIMSA installed a system of optical lenses in its products so that the beams of light coincide and are always perfectly focused at any distance between 70-140 cm away from the surgical field.

OR emergency light: feel good with us!

The feeling of being blinded by glare doesn’t only occur when the surgeon looks directly at the light source, it also happens when the eye deviates its gaze from the centre of the illuminated area to the edge of the surgical focus. This type of glare is called indirect glare and is caused by the passage of the eye through areas with different light intensity such as the passage from the illuminated surgical field to any other area in the operating theatre. This sudden change in intensity can cause numerous problems.

Firstly, this type of glare causes visual discomfort; surgeons would attempt to be more comfortable by continuously changing their positioning in order to improve their view but in doing so would sacrifice concentration. Loss of concentration caused by glare can be harmful to patients. In 2013 has been discovered that a transitional lighting reduces the sensation of glare. With UNICA RIMSA has resolve this limit intorducing an area of compensation that allows for a “progressive and gradual adjustment of light intensity.

OR light innovation

To improve the performance of its medical lights, RIMSA has integrated aspects related to comfort, durability, lighting field, eye strain, propagated heat, light quality, and energy consumption into the research for the best surgical lamp. Also part of this quest for the perfect lamp is the theme of sustainability, translated by RIMSA into an in-depth study on LED energy savings, the use of recycled materials, and long-term resistance.
